Comparing Merchant Service Charge Rates from Different Merchant Providers

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

Before applying for a merchant account and signing on the dotted line it is important to be aware of the different charges reflected on a merchant account’s month billing statement. You are probably familiar with the transaction fees and interchange fees being deducted from your revenue by now, but there are other merchant service charge types that do not normally reflect on your statement and can only be found once you carefully read the fine print. Service charges among merchant accounts are common enough, but it is those unwanted fees that you should be careful of. Take the time to compare the contracts offered by several merchant account providers and check whether they all have the same types of fees for the same type of card acceptance service you require. Chances are you may be able to get a good deal once you let several merchant providers know that you are considering another merchant provider that can give lower rates on service fees.
